A Conversation with Sinclair Ferguson
Smithton Church minister, David Meredith, interviews the Rev. Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson, Senior Minister at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina, and a Professor of Systematic Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary. The Scottish theologian is well known in Reformed Christian circles for his teaching, writing, and editorial work. Dr Ferguson visited Inverness in May 2011 to preach at the Kingsview Christian Centre induction of his son, John.

Those of us in the US would be barren of great gospel preaching and theology if it weren’t for the Scots (and UK) ministers making the voyage across the Atlantic. That is only a slight exaggeration, truly. This isn’t meant as any disrespect to the good American preachers we have, such as Ligon Duncan, Tim Keller, John Piper, etc., just a comment on how desperately we need you guys to keep coming–and come to California! S. Carolina doesn’t do us much good out here (except for the internet).
The greatest preachers and theologians we have today in America include Pastor Ferguson, Derek Thomas, Alistair Begg, and a relatively new preacher Philip D’Courcy. UK preachers have a theology and a passion and a perspective toward Christ, God, and the Holy Spirit that we cannot find in the US preachers (even the good ones we have, and there are a few).
Excellent interview because of the good questions and long answers. Thank you!
Wonderful interview! Thank you so much for posting this. Several items discussed relate to things I have just recently read or pondered. Praise the Lord.
This was a great interview. I really enjoyed this conversation and it served as a means of getting to know Dr. Ferguson a bit better.
Many thanks to you Pastor Meredith.
God’s blessings to you, your family, and your congregation.
Fascinating. Illuminating and moving.
